First, a quick Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers out there!

As I mentioned in a previous post, Amazon is releasing a new reading app called Kindle Vella. It looks like it will be similar to Wattpad but with a greater focus on reading and writing than on commenting and socializing.

And I’ve decided to take advantage of this new service by diving back into the world of Zach and Abby! So far I’ve created four ‘episodes’ that will serve as a prequel to His Name Was Zach.

I’m not sure how many total episodes there will be. I know what the last one will look like though: it will include an event casually mentioned in the opening pages of His Name Was Zach, but writing about it in Vella will allow me to make it very tense and exciting.

It’s been really fun to get back into this world, and I hope my readers will agree when Vella finally launches! I thought it might be hard slipping back into Zach and Abby’s characters but honestly it was like reuniting with old friends. The banter immediately came back and their dialogue flowed.

I don’t know when exactly Vella will launch (Amazon keeps saying ‘the next few months’ in their emails) but I will definitely let you folks know when it does! The first three episodes will be free to read, but the rest will have to be paid for, per Amazon’s rules. It’s a little complicated, but the tl;dr version is you buy packs of tokens to spend on unlocking episodes, and the cost per episode is based on how long the episode is (anywhere from 600-5,000 words).

For example, it appears my 1,200 word 4th episode will cost 11 tokens to unlock, and for now the cost of 200 tokens will be just $1.99 (subject to change). So basically it’d cost 20 cents to read.

And that’s it for the weekend! Once more a Happy Mother’s Day to everyone!
