I received Rejection #2 in my inbox today, another literary agent passing on my work. I do wish they gave more personalized feedback, though I understand that they probably receive a hundred such queries every week and don’t have the time to write each one a personal note. Oh well.
I’ve still got five more queries out there, maybe one of those will bite! In the meantime, I’m still taking a short break after completing the first draft of Her Name Was Abby, and in another week or so I’ll come back to it to begin polishing and editing with fresh eyes. At the same time, I’m desperate to jump back into it because I really, really enjoyed writing the sequel and I can’t wait to see the finished product!
Just keep putting it out there. The only agent that matters is the one who sees your work as something special!

Yayy. I’m still working on completing mine but I admire you having completed a novel. What’s it about?

It’s a dystopian fiction that follows the titular character Zach and his teenage daughter Abby as they struggle to survive in a post-apocalypse America. It’s a zombie story, but it’s really not about the zombies. It focuses on the father-daughter relationship of the protagonists and has a theme of overcoming traumatic events and how people cope with the memories of trauma in different ways (some good, some not so good).

Sounds a little bit like my favorite video game ever. The Last of Us. The funny thing is that my book is also post apocalypse about a 14 year old boy on his own trying to make his way across Canada.
Good luck with your novel.

Yes, “The Last Of Us” is absolutely my favorite game ever too. Ironically though, it had no influence at all on my story because I wrote the first draft while I was in Afghanistan, before the game was even released haha!
Thank you! Your story sounds very intriguing, I’ll be looking forward to seeing it published!

Fingers crossed. I’ll try to keep an eye on your journey. Are you an American? I’m a Canadian. Ontario.
Any Last of Us fan is a friend of mine hahah

I’m sorry to hear that. (I had my little mini-flurry of lit mag rejections last week.) Now that you’re on Twitter, you might want to give the #MSWL hashtag a try. (Manuscript Wish List)
